The Beginning
As photographers, we often search for our ideal clients. I've had many ideal clients over the years but this couple is special. I've captured weddings of people of many different races and cultures. Love is always at the center of my drive to show the world that it still does exist and thrives in people. In November of 2023, I found an ideal couple. I met Peyton and Josiah through a booking App for vendors. From our first conversation, I knew they were a fun couple who were yearning to begin their journey towards a life together. Peyton shared how she'd seen my work on the app and was interested in me capturing their wedding in May of 2024. During the initial consultation, they were relaxed and really cool. They shared their love story as I listened closely. I found it to be a fun experience. We cracked jokes and got to know each other. As a photographer, it's often important that we learn about who we are looking to capture, so the images will connect to their story. After this conversation, I felt it was a really good match. As the time passed, we had many different discussions to discuss their needs. They adhered to my advice but we compromised on many things to ensure their day was catered to their needs. I found this bride and groom to be very understanding, thoughtful and compassionate. They were never overbearing and always handled our meetings with a smile.
The Preparation
I often found myself a little nervous whenever I drive somewhere I've never been. I often shared with Josiah how I did not care to drive on highways that involve mountains LOL. I am very afraid of heights. Josiah assured me that I would not be in danger during my drive up to their wedding. Still being nervous, I spoke to a few co-workers that confirmed the drive wouldn't be that bad. So I rented a car and started on my way to Breezewood Pa.. I Arrived in Breezewood, checked into the hotel on time. The wedding was an hour drive away in Hollidaysburg Pa. While driving through Pennsylvania, I saw little towns that had me wondering, am I the only African American in this area? There were rural areas where I could tell the Sheriff was waiting for you to make a wrong move. So I kept it moving. As I approached the Church, I noticed the hills getting more steep and higher from the regular ground level. I arrived at the church and finally got the chance to hug my two friends I've become acquainted with over the past 6 Months. I knew this three and and half hour drive was going to be special.
Wedding Time
So the time has finally arrived. The Wedding of Peyton and Josiah IS HERE!!! As I arrived at the church, I met Peyton's Mother and Father, who greeted me with great hospitality. I was excited to finally meet my friends (Peyton and Josiah) who I had known only through phone conversations and emails. They were true genuine people who were happy I made it and excited to meet me as well.
This day was a day of "Firsts" for me. This was my first time in their hometown. I've been capturing weddings for 6 years. This was the first time a "Hymn" was sung at a Wedding Ceremony. Glory to GOD!!! I found that to be very cool. It proved to me that this couple was serious about their Faith in GOD and their pursuit towards HIM . Lastly, this was the first time I've ever captured a "Father first Look." This was a true special moment for Peyton and her father. The tears of Joy that came through the both of them was a happiness and a joy I can't explain. I can only imagine a man watching his daughter grown up and ready to become a wife, a friend and a life partner. Both sets of parents were extremely nice. Thay all thanked me for being a part of this special day.
After the Wedding Ceremony, I spoke to the pastor and commended him on his life changing words that challenged both Peyton and Josiah to be true to themselves and true to GOD. That was a moment I would not forget.
The reception was filled with congratulatory messages from close friends and family. I remember my wedding reception and how we partied like it was 1999...LOL. Well this party was definitely a sight to see and really fun to be a part of. This was a day filled with nothing but love, laughter and pure great emotion. To see two people submitting themselves to each other, in the eyes of GOD, combining families, dancing, eating, drinking and enjoying each others company, is a sight to see that can convince anyone that Love conquers all.
Congratulations! Peyton and Josiah and may God Bless and keep you both.
